SACE Points
All professional teachers in South Africa must be registered with SACE (the South African Council for Educators) in order to teach. As part of their membership with SACE all teaching professionals must earn 150 CPTD (Continuing Professional Teacher Development) points in a 3-year period, These points are obtained by engaging in professional development activities that are approved by SACE. SACE recognises 3 types of activities as follows:
- Teacher-Initiated
- School Initiated
- External Provider
This system was implemented as teaching was recognised as a profession that is constantly changing. Therefore, professionals must continue to grow their expertise throughout their careers. This is intended to ensure that teachers provide the best possible service to our youth.
Accredited
Mindful Moves is a proudly accredited service provider with the Department of Education. This means that many of the courses we offer will allow educators to earn SACE points. You will be able to complete a variety of courses with us that will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to work with all children. Additionally, these courses are a chance for you as a teacher to invest in your own professional growth. We try to facilitate all three types of activities to ensure we accommodate your needs, with many of our teacher-initiated activities being available online.
3-Year Cycles
As an educator it is important to keep track of what three-year cycle you fall into and when your deadline is. Especially because if you do not obtain the 150 CPTD points your SACE registration can be denied which means you won’t be able to teach. Your cycle will depend on which cohort you fall into based on your position, it is best to ask your school when your cycle ends. To ensure you obtain all the necessary points before your deadline.
